Hi Kali,

It's not a problem at all-- in fact, it's very much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to translate and post some meanings and combinations. Wink

I had wondered if the meanings for the Gypsy cards were as rich as the meanings for the Lenormand, and it seem that they are!

Yes, I understand that these cards are VERY popular in Hungary, and so it makes sense that they would also be well-known in Romania. Had you heard of the Gypsy cards before the recent interest here on the forum?

I have heard about these cards but I didn't pay attention to them. The gypsies that I have seen in the area where Im living, use to read fortune with playing cards. In fact I've never seen this kind of cards at romanian gypsies.I think these cards are specific for hungarian gypsies. In the west side of Romania these cards are popular. My grand-grand mother was hungarian but only my grandparents know this language. On the forum I noticed that these cards are read in combinations mostly. They are not so complicated in meanings as Lenormard.I have copied the meaning of every cards from a lady who learned from her hungarian granny. With your permission I would like to translate it and post these meanings. For instance, taking the card" Widow":
"It's a neutre card that represents a woman around of 40th.The meaning of widow is taken in consider only if there is accompanied by these cards:Death,Illness,Enemy,Misfortune. This card can represent the mother,a sister,an older relative but also an ex-partner.She is a woman who offers support to the querent. The card is the symbol of loneliness, isolation, maturity. As characteristic:it represents a lonely or separated person.

Hi Kali,

Sure, I would be very interested in having a look at the translated meanings-- please include a link to the original Romanian text so that the original source is cited. Thank you! Wink It's interesting that these cards are read in combination like the Lenormand.

I wondered if the Gypsy cards are actually used by the Gypsies in Hungary. I know that in most places they're known for reading playing cards. Martello claims to have learned his cartomancy meanings from an Italian Gypsy.
