which card should I use?
Hi all!
I want to do a reading about a man I am intersted in and I'm not sure which card to use as the significator for the no-layout. I want to ask if he likes me as well. I think it should be the heart or the man ,huh? Is there any other layout you suggest about such a reading?
thanks

Re: which card should I use?
Hi,
If you want to read about his intentions towards you, then I think the Man is a good choice. Also, if you want to read about him in general, and what kind of guy he is or if he's "suitable" then the Man would be the key card.
If you're interested in what he thinks of you, or how he sees you, then the Lady is a good choice.
With the no-layout, you'll want that kind of detailed focus, which depends on the nature of your question(s).

Ok I'll try and do both because I'm a little confused
1)"What are X's intentions towards me?"
I got
The cards were pretty good I think untill the fox showed up
Key is a good indicator - According to Steinbach's book this is a definite yes (although it's hard to believe since we haven't talked to each other ever - I've just caught him staring at me several times)
Key +Whip = sexual chemistry, passion and physical attraction
Since the Cross is next to the key card I could use it as a description and think of him as being lonely, depressed or even insecure
Man+Letter+Heart = Happy news froom him? Maybe we'll get to talk to each other eventually? Now that I think of the heart it could possibly mean that he is already involved with someone else - maybe a distant relationship?
And what about the fox in the end? Could it possibly mean that he will prove that he is deceitful and liar? I also saw somewhere in the book that the combination Key+Fox means passionate about his job and key employee (which I can confirm - he is a doctor and loves his job and he is one of the best doctors in our hospital)
2) "How does X see me?"
Again the same pattern - good cards and at the end the mice
Furthermore the letter appears both times.
Could anyone help me with these readings? Sorry for all the silly questions but I've just started learning the lenormand cards and I'm very overwhelmed!

X sees me as cheerful and popular, maybe naive as well, and financially stable - i can relate to that since my father owns the hospital X is working-.
I cant think of anything else...

Hi Tania,
I think you did a great job on your readings!
In the No-Layout, the cards to the left of the Key card refer to the past influences or the present situation, and the cards to the right of the key card will refer to future intentions.
taniataniatania wrote:The cards were pretty good I think untill the fox showed up
The further away a card is from the key card, the less influence it will have on the matter, so I don't see Fox as being deception in this case.

Whip + Cross can indicate that he has been deeply hurt in the past, and he's feels a little insecure. Key would show that this is a karmic issue-- probably from his past (remember, the further away a card is, the less direct influence it has on the question).
taniataniatania wrote:Man+Letter+Heart = Happy news froom him? Maybe we'll get to talk to each other eventually? Now that I think of the heart it could possibly mean that he is already involved with someone else - maybe a distant relationship?
You're reading about his intentions, so it looks like his intentions are to communicate with you. Letter usually indicates a communication in writing, so he could be contemplating sending you a note. I would take the Heart as an indication that he does have feelings for you-- or at least emotionally interested.
I don't see an existing relationship in these cards, but of course that doesn't mean there isn't one-- it just means it isn't showing up.

I would expect Fox to fall closer to the key card if he were deceitful and a liar.
I would read Heart + Fox as an indication that he's being sneaky about his feelings-- hiding his interest. It gives me the impression that you may need to make the first move to open up communications with him. The Cross confirms that he's probably feeling a little insecure about making a move.
I get the feeling that he would like to get to know you better, but may not be sure how to approach you.
That's my take based on Sylvie's meanings. Other folks can give you some insight using the more traditional meanings.

An excellent point that we should all remember -- I often forget to "weigh" the cards in the no-layout, even though it's part of the method. (It's not explicit in the book, to my knowledge.)

Key + Fox means that Key and Fox are neighboring cards, to be combined. They are not adjacent in this layout. Traditional Lenormand techniques include "reflection," which pair opposites. In this this layout, Key and Fox are equally distant from the center, and therefore are opposites. But reflection is not part of the no-layout, so that wouldn't be included here either.
My feelings are similar to what's already been said. The man definitely (Key) has strong feelings towards conflict (Whip), and it's something of a burden to him (Cross); I'd say this means he is adverse to conflict in general, and presumably it means a fear of conflict-- or confrontation -- is coloring his approach to you. He does seem likely to send you a note (Letter); perhaps a little token of affection, if not an outright love letter (Heart). With the Fox, he may simply be trying to be crafty about it, and try to let you know his feelings without being straightforward. Kapherus made some good points in that regard.
And your questions aren't silly at all! It's nice to see people diving into the Lenormand. Feel free to ask questions, that's what this forum is for -- learning and sharing knowledge.
One tip I have, is to not get stuck on thinking you have to memorize all those combinations listed in the book or listed elsewhere. Treat them as more of a reference, especially if you can't work out a pair. You'll learn better and with less pressure that way. Of course, if you like the combinations, then disregard my advice... generally, those lists are meant to show how the author pairs cards, but they aren't exhaustive.

No, probably because in the book most of the readings are limited to only two cards before and after the key card. In the virtual workshop on Aeclectic Tarot Forum, all the advanced readings include three cards on either side, and Sylvie does stress the fact that the cards should be weighed based on proximity to the key card.
By the way, for anyone interested in learning Sylvie Steinbachs's method, I highly recommend the virtual workshop. In my opinion the book doesn't have enough examples of the advanced readings.

Hi tania
I've nothing to add and Kaph and rif and you self have covered the situation very well. Keep us updated on how things develop.
Kaph, when you say Sylvie's workshop you meant to read what is already there or to join the workshop self?

Hi Stanze,
Sylvie's virtual workshop over at Aeclectic Tarot Forum is no longer active, but all of the case studies include a detailed breakdown by Sylvie-- the trick is not to be confused by the student responses which are often incorrect. I just meant work through the case studies. It's not necessary to join the workshop.
You can find the workshop index here: Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle Workshop - Index.

Well today we talked for the first time. I went into his office to give him his payment for October and asked him to confirm the dates that we was on duty. Pretty much, that was all we talked about. Hope it's just the beginning
