Re: magical application
The quote has nothing to do with Java; although it would likely rely on javascript. Modern browsers are all javascript-enabled, although you do need to make sure that you haven't disabled it.
Other than that, just press the "quote" button (not multi-quote) instead of reply, when you want to respond and include a previous poster's text. It should populate a response for you, with all of the previous poster's text.
I'm not familiar with this spread. I know of similar techniques used with tarot cards. I also have seen where some people lay out playing cards on a 12-sectioned wheel representing the astrological houses as a talisman to do the same kind of thing.
Generally, the idea is to pick a specific card or cards that describe what it is you want. This will vary especially with playning cards, because it depends on what meanings you ascribe to them.
For a life partner, you could pick a face card that is meaningful to you (such as K
), combine it with a love card (such as 4
) and optionally with a card that indicates companionship, balance or harmony.
For a music project, you need to focus on what you really want: a complete project, recognition or monetary compensation. Then choose appropriate cards. So you might want a card of completed work, such as 9 or 10
. Money would come from some relevant diamond card. This might be a good candidate for the generic wish card, usually 9
. If completion or success requires good news or a contract, you might work in an A
.
Again, think about what you really want, then choose cards that describe those things, according to your meanings.
I wouldn't choose too many cards, because it can dilute things; probably three at most is good.
I hope that helps.

Re: magical application
Hi moonmagic,
I tried it and I got results, but I'm not sure this was thanks to the spread. My wishes were little ones, nothing to do with the man of my life. Probably it would have happened anyway.
As rif said, you have to choose cards whose meanings reflect your wish, only 3 cards, no more.

Re: magical application
Firstly, I'm going to be bold and move this thread to the Metaphysical section.
Next, for quick reference, here is the Hedgewytchery section on the Coven of the cards. (Found on this page).
I haven't sat down and used this spread, but only because I haven't needed to. I've been a practicing witch for over a decade, and the longer I go, the less I find it necessary to use spellwork.
That being said, in truth I love this concept and do very much intend to use it when the necessity arises. This is one of my favorite things about the Hedgewytchery system, and one of the reasons I love the system so much is that it has elements of this part of my life written right into it.
Whether or not the application will work is probably more dependent on your familiarity and skill with magic than it is with the cards themselves. The cards provide a focus and method, as with all components of spellwork which are props or peripherals (namely, everything).
If what you are looking for is simply the right combination of cards to use with this application, they simply have to be cards that speak to you. While you can't use the K♥, as Rif suggested, with this spread (because all the courts are already used), for a life partner you could use 2♥ 9♥ 4♥, or something similar, if that combination makes sense to you. The CD might be somewhat more difficult to represent, but you might begin with researching whether any systems suggest a card to represent music.
Lastly, I don't know how familliar or experienced you are with spellwork, but I also might not advise doing these layouts more than one at a time.
My two cents (more like two dollars, I know, lol)...
Next, for quick reference, here is the Hedgewytchery section on the Coven of the cards. (Found on this page).
A Magical Application of the Coven Spread: The Coven of the Cards: There is a magical application of The Coven Spread. It may be used to cast spells when the Joker and Courts are laid out in a certain way.
[...]
This is the Coven of the Cards, which will work your spell for you. You will note some interesting patterns in this arrangement, but we will leave them to you to contemplate on your own. To work a spell, choose a trio of cards to represent your objective. If you want a huge raise in pay at work, you might choose the 8♣, 9♦, and 10♦, in that order. Make them into a little pile, face-up, with the first card of the trio at the bottom and the last card of the trio at the top, and place them underneath the Joker, thereby symbolizing your dominance over circumstance. Then leave them be. Once in the morning, upon arising, and once in the evening, upon retiring, take out the trio from underneath the Joker, name the cards and state your wish, using the following formula or similar words: “8 of Clubs, 9 of Diamonds, 10 of Diamonds, I want a huge raise in pay at work, and by the power of witchery, so it is mine already.” Then replace the trio as it was before.
All sorts of little spells may be wrought by this method – finding lost objects, making someone contact you, finding a buyer for real estate that one is selling, the return of health, casting minor hexes, a blessing on crops, and so on. Leaving a symbolic pattern of cards set out like this is similar to allowing a candle to burn for a long time. Once the spell is commenced, it continues to build of its own momentum, a secret built into the half-light, half-dark pattern you will see upon laying out the cards. The Coven of the Cards is always working toward the Witch’s aim, even whilst she is occupied with other tasks or journeying. And with no risk to burning down her house.
When the spell has been fulfilled or the wish granted, remove the trio, place the three cards back in the deck, and then say words of honor and blessing to the Coven of the Cards. Finally, let the members of the Coven of the Cards be dispersed to their places in the deck until you shall have need to convene them again.
