Re: The Silva Method
True, but I've been sleeping miserably all week, and when I have really bad headaches, sleep is about the only thing that helps.
You can eat fat, btw - fat is good. Well, except for those weird lab-created ones that go into margarine and the like.
So try a little paté and havarti for a snack instead of the chips?
I do eat a little bit of carbs sometimes - my blood sugar plummets occasionally and you need them then. But otherwise you can do without.
Sourdough bread is one of the least-worst offenders, and new small potatoes are less carby than bigger and older ones. The Weston Price Foundation has some excellent recipes and grain preparation techniques - they aren't anti-grain. Both Price, and another dentist whose name I can't remember at the moment, had tremendous success even in reversing dental cavities in children (cavities they already HAD, mind you) with diet. So that's another option to check out - the site is fascinating: http://www.westonaprice.org/
The history of food is pretty fascinating stuff - and it all got utterly suppressed when the 'carbs are good for you' faction came along.
I didn't find it that hard to give things up, actually. Didn't go cold turkey, but decided one day I wasn't going to drink pop - and stopped. And so on. I still put potatoes in soup when I make it (a lot), but there are loads of good non-carby foods with dead easy recipes.

Thanks for the link, Chanah. It seems really interesting and I'm going to "delicious" it
Well, 6 meals a day considering we should wake up to eat is terrific. It doesn't need to be like that Kaph, when I talk about eating regularly it means light snacks between the main meals will make you eat less during them. Also, try to identify when it's real hunger you are feeling or just a desperate desire to chew something.
Try to have a big glass of water when the "desire" comes ...

Re: The Silva Method
Very interesting site, Chanah! I'm amazed to learn that cavities can be reversed by diet!
I don't think I'd be happy completely cutting out carbs-- I'm very thankful that I'm not diabetic, but cutting back on the carbs is something I should definitely work on. I'm so conditioned to think of fat as the enemy that I can't remember the last time I ate real butter or more than two eggs in a week!
Stanze, yes light snacks between meals is a good idea-- and if carbs are the enemy and good fats are friends, then a handful of peanuts might not be such a bad choice after all.

Pistachios, walnuts, and sunflower seeds - good. Peanuts are pulses, not technically nuts, so a bit carby, but a few won't hurt.
Eggs are the perfect proteins! Really - even our fat-phobic governments use eggs as the model protein and there are fats in eggs you can't get from anything else. Your brain is largely composed of fats, you need fat to function and to stay sharp mentally.
Butter is good for you, too - the fats in butter are a primary treatment for starvation because they break down vitamins and minerals so that the body can use them - and this is true of the non-starving, too. Margarine on the other hand, is evil stuff - you don't even need science to tell you that -anything that turns into glue when it hits the wrong temp when you're cooking - blech. It really isn't healthy for you.
And just for the record, while there are protein deficiency diseases and fat deficiency diseases, nobody's ever found a carbohydrate deficiency disease.

I sign up behind everything Chanah said. Especially about eggs I've read a reportage in a Dutch magazine that desmistifies all the "bad" ideas about eggs and cholesterol.
I do eat eggs regularly - and butter instead of margarine - and I'm also trying to reduce the carbs...

Re: The Silva Method
Not exactly a walking advertisement for good health on account of all the genetic problems, but - I've had Type II Diabetes for 40 years, but there are no complications, and I don't use drugs to control it - never have. Diet only, and my blood sugar is nearly always in the normal people range. When I got the throat tumours I gained 35 lbs overnight (literally). That was scary. But after they found and removed the first tumour 20 lbs of it came off. I could still stand to lose another 15 lbs, but I'm nowhere near obese and never have been. I'm sure if I'd followed the 'heart healthy' diet I wouldn't be able to get through the door - and I'd probably have had a heart attack or stroke 20 or 30 years ago.
So I say it works.
So I say it works.
Re: The Silva Method
Gosh. If I wasn't sold before on the low(er) carb idea, I sure am now.
If I may though, I have an on topic question! Lol. Stanze, have you gotten or done Lesson 3 of the free program yet? I just got mine but won't have a chance to go through it until very late this evening.

Hi Analae
What I got was a kind of instructions on how to think when you are in the alpha leval. I got this e-mail this morning. Did you get some recording as well? I only got the one that come with the second lesson.

Aha! So I see. I have gone through and read it now. It describes thinking through problems and seeking out ideas while in the "Alpha level" - admittedly I need more practice getting into the Alpha before I can try this though. Let me know how it works for you!

Re: The Silva Method
Yep, I still have to "feel" the Alpha Level to try these exercises as well. I have talked today with a psychoterapist and he told me that once you are there (and you will feel it) you can easier reach that level (his words, not mine!).
I've done the centering exercise only two times anyway. I need more time. Let me know as well how far have you developed it!

Well I have been using the Alpha level of mind for some time, although I was not exactly aware that this is what I was doing, so I do at least know what it "feels" like. However, I have always struggled to get there, so I hope doing the centering exercise will make the transition easier! I also look forward to eventually learning the 3-finger method Kaph has described - it would be very useful.

Re: The Silva Method
I completed the Silva Life System program-- at least I completed listening to all of the modules, and participating in every meditation exercise at least once. Now I need to decide which techniques to perfect based on the changes I want to initiate in my life. I'm still working on manifesting a new Macbook, and I graduated beyond using the guided meditation. I use the techniques while listening to the alpha sounds only.
I highly recommend this program for anyone wanting to learn an easy way to reach a deep meditative state to reduce stress and anxiety. As for the other promised benefits of the program, I want to wait until I see them manifest in my own life before I make and added recommendations.

Re: The Silva Method
I just wanted to provide a little feedback concerning my continued work with the techniques I learned from The Silva Life System.
By simply programming my mind to choose healthy foods and avoid refined sugars, I find that I naturally make better choices at meal times and snacks. As a result, I've dropped 15 lbs since I started working with the system without consciously trying to diet or restrict my food intake at all. It's worked like magic for me!
Now I just need to start programming for some financial abundance!
