Visualization?

Hi bainstom,

I assume you mean Creative Visualization or Law of Attraction? I've tried various techniques over the years, with varying results. Most recently I've been working with the Silva Method and alpha wave meditation, for overcoming negative thinking, and for reality creation. You can read about some of my experiences here:

The Silva Method

My introduction to what used to be called 'Creative Visualization' was the book with the same title by Shakti Gawain. Over the years I've studied some of the channeled information on the subject including the Lazaris materials, and the Manifesting course from Orin and Deben.

Nowadays, the techniques are more often called "The Laws of Attraction," or "Reality Creation," and more recently I've listened to some of the channeled stuff from Abraham through Esther Hicks.

I've also read a ton of books on the subject ranging from New Thought -- Science of Mind, affirmations, etc.-- to Huna , magic and sorcery.

I have not read The Secret or seen the movie, since I didn't think it would contain anything new on the subject.

Was there a particular aspect of visualization you're interested in?

I highly recommend the book The Power of Your Subconcious Mind by Joseph Murphy if you're looking for a good place to start your study of the subject. Also, anything by Sonia Choquette is good for a more modern approach.

If you search 'Law of Attraction' on Amazon.com, you'll find a huge selection of books on the subject.

Kaph, Thanks so much for sharing this information with me. That thread is very interesting.

I have not seen The Secret either, no reason, it just never appealed to me and still doesnt...so.. I havent looked into the Law of attraction at all.

I dont have any idea what aspect of visualization I am interested in. (The yoga teacher mentioned it in a couple of classes so I gather its important). Ive been doing alot of yoga and meditation because of my school studies and it can get pretty overwhelming and confusing so I was looking for relaxation techniques and grounding and an 'awareness' of sorts.

.....Then yesterday during a very long discussion and trying to figure out stuff etc....someone told me that I am psychic and asked if I am using visualization. All to which I said a big 'HUH are you crazy'

(Then I woulda seen the theft coming)....right-o then.

I will check my library for some of the books you mentioned and have a thorough looksee at the Silvan. (I glimpsed at it and will probably sneek and get it)

I agree with Kaph-The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Murphy is really really good- he calls it Scientific Prayer and gives details on how achieve success in various areas of one's life.

I've seen The Secret and what it's revealed is no secret, it's empty (to me) compared to What The Bleep Do We Know. If you're scientifically minded or just really want something deeper What The Bleep describes and explains why LOA works.

Years ago, I was in a Chinese bookstore where I live and I came across the book by Leadbetter on this subject. It was illustrated with beautiful color plates. He constantly referred to thought forms in the text. His explanations were simple and convincing. I believe he wrote the manuscript about 1908.

Hi, Barb here. A book I have found useful is by Sandra Tabatha Cicero and Chic Cicero, Self-Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition. I mention it not for the ceremonial magick applications (for that I'd look to Crowley) but they offer a very detailed daily regimen for developing the abilities to quiet the mind and to visualize. They use a deceptively simple "imagine four balls of colored light" exercise, and then develop into full-on godform meditations/visualizations. The key to this system is that it is done every single day. It includes a daily walk to sharpen the five senses and the memory. I recommend this part of the book highly.

It doesn't have the advanced techniques of Silva (of which I think very highly) but it might be a good starting point to hone those visualization skills if you, like me, are other than visually oriented.

I was at a temp job a few xmass ago and it was my last day of the assignment i remember writing down, with a red pen (and i still have this note) a perfect job that i wanted. I wrote down the way it was and the managers and co-workers i would have.

about a day later, i received a call from the agency asking me to do a 2 hour temp assignment at a company nearby while they a holiday party. it was so wonderful and i guess i made a good impression because they asked me to become a permanent employee. a few months later, i glanced at that note and saw....it was THE JOB I WROTE DOWN. All of it. I do believe in the Law of Attraction. I have pics and notes all over the place of my visions.

Hi Season,

I have a similar experience with the job I have now-I was new to the whole metaphysical field and a friend told me I should write what I'd like, I did that and meditated morning and evening a few months. Events occurred that led me to where I'm at now. A few months ago I looked at the old list and was really surprised to find I have almost everything on it!

I guess the 'secret' really is to have faith while still not holding onto our wishes. Thanks for sharing your experience,

Definately....it does work. I need to start doing more of it. But i like to take photos and actually go places and see myself living there. the ocean is a great place to do that.

I have many crystals from the Pacific Ocean that i have found and also some rocks from the beach in Catalina Island that i bring back and put them on my shower floor. I like to have that piece of california lifestyle in my shower. LOLOL the rocks i bring back and put in my back yard and shower and all over my house, bring me closer to my "goal" as to where i want to be.
If you "See It" you can make it materialize.
