Pages of Shustah Meanings For Divination:
Blue 4 - The Swamp

Card Description:

Shustah Blue 4 depicts a forested swamp. A tall cypress tree frames the left foreground. The top of the image is bordered by the tree’s needled branches, draped with Spanish moss. In the foreground a cluster of cypress knees poke out of the water. In the background, a line of mangrove trees form a natural barrier with their aerial roots against a blank sky.

Symbolism:

Swamp: the swamp symbolizes feeling overloaded or overburdened as in the metaphor “being swamped with work.” Because a swamp is overloaded with water, and water symbolizes the emotions, the swamp specifically represents an emotional overload. The swamp can also be symbol for hidden or repressed emotions. As a popular setting for horror films, the swamp can indicate something dangerous lurking beneath the surface.

Suggested Meanings:

This card represents a patch of difficult ground that the seeker must traverse in order to move ahead in whatever area is influenced by this card. The seeker may be feeling bogged down, or caught up in a sticky situation. This card denotes a temporary burden that is troublesome to overcome.

The Swamp can be a warning to test the ground carefully before taking the next step. Like trudging through a quagmire, progress can be arduous, and the seeker is advised to take slow, careful steps to avoid possible traps or hazards. Movement is possible at this time, but progress will be slow and difficult.

Specifically, this card reveals a difficult period of emotional overload for the seeker. This can be a time when the seeker is “swamped” by responsibilities, or is feeling overloaded with work, or overwhelmed by emotions. The Swamp also points to a period of recuperation or recovery, but at a much slower pace than the seeker desires.

It’s important to note that the difficulties represented by The Swamp are usually temporary in nature. Recovery can be a long drawn-out process, but once the seeker passes through the challenge, the recovery is almost always permanent. In whichever house of the Zodiac this card falls, it denotes a slow but permanent recovery from the problems or challenges affecting that particular area of the seeker’s life.

Reversed:

In the reversed position, The Swamp indicates “sticking to one’s guns,” and not giving in, or compromising one’s position.

Suggested Meanings for The Swamp in the Houses:

1st House: The seeker is feeling emotionally overwhelmed.

2nd House: Current money problems that are slowly improving.

3rd House: Confusion, or muddled thinking.

5th House: Working through the emotional burden of a difficult love affair, or problem child.
