Why should I sign up?

Post  Guest on Fri Jul 03, 2009 6:40 pm

We are a community! This goes without saying. But beyond that, I just really want to encourage everyone to consider being a part of this project!

I saw someone use this quote recently, and it spoke volumes to me:

"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."
Aristotle

Why should you sign up for this project? Even if you're not an artist, if you think you have no skill, or if you're just plain shy. What have you got to contribute? A lot!

Creativity is not something you can bottle, and it's not something you can restrict. If you're feeling stuck, unconfident, or you have artist's block, why don't you consider some of these ideas, before dismissing your wonderful contribution out of hand?

- Calligraphy or word art
- Collage
- Anthropomorphization
- Stick figures and cartoons
- Abstract art
- Landscapes
- Making kaleidoscopes of existing photos on your computer
- Using free clipart
- Wax-resist or wax-removal with crayons
- Pressed flowers and fallen leaves
- Watercolour
- Photography
- Stamping
- Crafts
- Embroidery
- Line drawing
- Sand art
- The world of the internet (full of inspiration)!

As an example, I visited Polyvore.com and created a sample collage for the Queen of Spades. It took me 25 minutes, and I print-screened and transferred it into a paint program. (Note - this is just an example; the actual print size likely wouldn't meet the size requirement.)

Some additional ideas to get you brainstorming:

Put yourself in the shoes of a court card you might be assigned.
What does it feel like?
What represents this card?
What is its feeling, its colour?
What does this courtier dream about?
If you're an Ace, what do you represent?
In addition to this, what reflects your own personality?
What part of you is captured by your image of this card? (Hint - you don't have to tell us! Wink)
Why is this card personal to you?
Can you relate to it? Or is it foreign?
Do you and this card have a history?
How has it shown up in combinations for you?
Is the card a place, a colour, a sound?
If it was a dream symbol, what would it show up as?

We would love to see as many people as possible take this challenge. Kaph has mentioned to me, and I agree, that this could be a powerful deck considering all the energies going into it! He and I both intend to use it for readings. But it should also reflect the people of the forum - and the more we have, the merrier.

Keep in mind, too, that the more people we have involved, the more cards we can bring to life!

I hope I have been able to provide some inspiration and ideas for some of our potential artists. It is my (9♥) wish and hope that no matter what your skill level or talent, you will join us in this project! I cannot stress enough that being unable to draw is no barrier, and not to underestimate your creative and intuitive self.

For those who have signed up so far:

thanks
